Kenya’s Konza Technopolis Set for Major Investments in Technology and Finance

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenyan government is gearing up to make significant investments in the technology and financial sectors at Konza Technopolis City as part of the 2023-2027 Medium Term Plan IV.

This aims to bolster the country’s economy through local and international revenue sources, according to Secretary for Devolution Affairs and Intergovernmental Relations, Alfonso Munyali who was one of the speakers during the dissemination of Medium-Term Plan IV of 2023-2027 at a hotel in Wote town on Wednesday.

Technological Advancements and Educational Opportunities

One of the standout features of this plan is the establishment of a center for technological development at Konza City.

Munyali revealed that this hub will enable people to earn degrees from the Open University from the comfort of their homes, utilizing advanced digital platforms.

This innovation aims to make higher education more accessible and convenient, thereby empowering individuals to further their education without the need to commute.

“Through technology, people will earn degrees from the already established Open University from the comfort of their homes. Entrepreneurs will get cheap credit to improve their businesses besides creating jobs for the unemployed youths,” Munyali announced.

Financial Services and Business Growth

The government’s plan also includes significant investments in financial services at Konza City.

Entrepreneurs will benefit from easier access to credit, which is expected to boost business growth and create job opportunities, particularly for the youth.

The ability to conduct digital transactions and access government services online will be greatly enhanced, fostering a more conducive environment for business operations.

Additionally, the government will construct hotels to support the hospitality industry, enhancing the overall infrastructure of Konza City.

A high-voltage power line between Isinya and Konza City will be installed, ensuring reliable electricity for both residents and businesses.

Infrastructure and Agricultural Improvements

Infrastructure development is another critical aspect of the plan.

The government will construct a metre-gauge railway to facilitate the transportation of goods.

This railway will be crucial in connecting Konza City to broader markets, driving economic growth in the region.

To support agriculture, a cold storage facility will be established, preserving fruits, tomatoes, and milk.

This facility aims to improve the agricultural sector by reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring a steady supply of fresh produce.

Regional Cooperation and Support

The event was officially opened by Secretary Wildlife Shadrack Ngene on behalf of Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. highlighted the need for revenue sharing from national parks within Makueni County, similar to arrangements in Kajiado and Taita Taveta counties.

On disaster management, Governor Kilonzo Jr. urged the national government to assist in constructing a hospital to manage accidents along the busy Mombasa-Nairobi highway, emphasizing the region’s urgent healthcare needs.
