MKU Medical Students To Gain Hands-On Experience At KU Hospital

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Mount Kenya University (MKU) medical students are set to gain invaluable hands-on experience at Kenyatta University Teaching Research and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH) thanks to a newly minted partnership between the two institutions.

In a move to enhance medical training, MKU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, announced that 42 MKU medical science students have already been placed for clinical attachment at KUTRRH.

This collaboration doesn’t stop at student placements; MKU staff will also have access to specialized care at the Level 6 health facility.

Focus on Research and Innovation

The partnership aims to promote research and innovation, crucial elements in advancing medical science.

Both institutions are gearing up for joint efforts in cancer research and other medical fields.

While MKU prides itself on high-quality training, KUTRRH’s state-of-the-art facilities provide an edge in fostering innovation.

“Let us get the best out of this deal because we believe KUTRRH has cutting-edge facilities that our medical students will use to train,” said Prof. Jaganyi.

Accompanying him was Prof. Peter Wanderi, who oversees Training and Linkages at MKU.

Expanding Global Collaborations

With a student population exceeding 60,000 across its campuses, MKU is poised for more global partnerships.

As a pioneer private university offering a medical sciences faculty, MKU has already established linkages with Germany and Austria for nurse training.

KUTRRH Chief Executive Ahmed Dagane highlighted that the MoU will strengthen training, capacity building, and internships for both health workers and students.

“This collaboration is a significant step towards enhancing the skills and expertise of our future medical professionals,” Dagane said.
