NAIROBI, Kenya- As Kenya’s digital landscape rapidly expands, experts in the security industry are sounding the alarm on the need for innovation to enhance online safety.
During the ongoing Securexpo East Africa in Nairobi, stakeholders stressed the importance of advanced solutions to counter the rising cyber threats accompanying the country’s digital transformation.

Thomas Bwaley, the ICT Authority’s Director for Programs and Standards, made it clear that Kenya’s cybersecurity efforts need a significant upgrade.
Speaking at the expo, he highlighted the government’s ambitious plan to expand internet access through 1,450 ICT hubs and 25,000 public Wi-Fi hotspots across the country.
While this initiative promises to bridge the digital divide, Bwaley cautioned that increased connectivity comes with a growing need for robust online security measures.
“Securing the physical aspects of this infrastructure is critical,” Bwaley emphasized, pointing out that cybersecurity isn’t just a digital concern—it’s about ensuring the safety of all users in this expanding ecosystem.
He urged public and private sectors to work together in addressing these challenges, emphasizing that collaboration is the cornerstone of effective cybersecurity strategies.
