NAIROBI,Kenya-The Poultry and protein processor Kenchic says the new butcheries already operational in Rongai, Utawala, Syokimau, Thika, Karen, Eldoret, and Narok combine the familiarity of local meat shops with the hygiene standards and traceability of a national brand.
The initiative comes amid growing concern over food safety, particularly in informal meat markets, where hygiene and sourcing standards are inconsistent.
“Our priority has always been the health of our consumers and the communities we serve,” said Jim Tozer, Managing Director at Kenchic.
“The introduction of Kenchic Butcheries is our response to the growing demand for trusted, safe, and nutritious protein options in the face of rising food safety issues in the country.”
All products at Kenchic Mtaani outlets are Halaal-certified and fully traceable from farm to counter.
The butcheries currently offer fresh chicken and beef, with plans to expand to goat, lamb, and fish.
Kenchic says the initiative is designed not only to promote healthier eating but also to increase Kenya’s per capita chicken consumption, which remains low compared to global averages.
The butcheries will also serve as learning centers where consumers can gain insights into the food supply chain and understand the critical role of safety in sourcing protein.
The company says the Mtaani outlets are a key part of its wider effort to enhance nutrition and strengthen trust in meat products throughout Kenya.
