NAIROBI, Kenya- Huawei recently celebrated the winners of its “Women in Tech” ICT competition at a gala ceremony in Bangladesh, marking a significant step in the development of local ICT talent and promoting knowledge sharing among current female STEM students.
Inspired by the theme “Tech for Her, Tech by Her, Tech with Her,” the competition, launched last year in Bangladesh, aimed to spotlight female innovators in the tech industry.
With strategic support from UNESCO, the competition saw 750 participants, with 18 making it to the final round.
The highlight of the event was the victory of Team Dhaara, who showcased a project on using solar energy and other technologies to ensure a safe water supply.
Additionally, four participants were recognized for their outstanding individual performances.
Huawei’s Commitment to Female Empowerment
Pan Junfeng, President of Huawei South Asia and CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, emphasized the company’s dedication to female empowerment in ICT.
“As a localized company in Bangladesh, Huawei has always prioritized providing job, internship opportunities, and ICT upskilling for women through various talent development programs.” said Junfeng.
Huawei launched its global “Women in Tech” project in 2020 and continues to run additional programs like Seeds for the Future and the Huawei ICT Competition to highlight the potential of youth and drive the nation towards a more inclusive and technologically advanced future.
Tech companies have endeavored to bridge the gender gap and many have created initiatives to ensure that technology and training are available to all.
