The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has directed that all security providers, including bouncers, stewards, and crowd control personnel, must be vetted, registered, and certified as per the Private Security Regulation Act.
In a statement released Monday, PSRA Acting CEO Philip Okello emphasized that non-compliance would result in legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
“All event organisers, promoters, and planners must ensure the private security companies they contract are compliant,” Okello stated. “No one is allowed to provide private security services in Kenya for a fee without proper registration, vetting, and licensing.”
Additionally, Okello underscored that private security firms must possess a valid five-year certificate of registration and event-specific security preparedness certification from PSRA.
The latter, he explained, serves as the only proof that an event or venue has undergone the necessary security assessment and meets safety and emergency preparedness standards.
The directive comes amid increased security concerns as large crowds are expected at concerts, parties, and sporting events during the holiday season.
“Failure to comply exposes organisers to individual and corporate criminal liability,” Okello warned.
