Nairobi County Orders Repainting of Buildings and Repairs in CBD by Set Deadline

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Nairobi County Government has issued a directive requiring property owners, tenants, and property managers within key areas of the city to repaint their buildings and repair security lights within 90 days.

The initiative aims to enhance urban aesthetics, improve safety, and promote maintenance practices.

In a statement issued by the Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, Patrick Analo, the directive targets buildings in areas such as Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, University Way, Kirinyaga Road, Westlands Shopping Centre, Upper Hill, and Ngara.

“This order takes effect immediately and shall lapse after 90 days, after which the county government of Nairobi shall commence undertaking necessary legal enforcement against those who will not have repainted their buildings and provided security lighting for their premises,” the statement read.

The directive was discussed during a county cabinet meeting on January 21, chaired by Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Governor Sakaja emphasized that the order aligns with county laws, which require buildings to be repainted annually.

“This move will play a critical role in enhancing the city’s appeal, boosting safety, and ensuring urban sustainability,” the governor stated.

The county has warned of legal action against non-compliant property owners after the deadline.

This comes as part of a broader campaign to address urban neglect and foster a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Nairobi.
