NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its application portal for the 2024 placement cycle, giving Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates 21 days to apply for admission into Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions of their choice.
In a groundbreaking move, KUCCPS is implementing a phased application process for the first time.
This phase focuses on KMTC and TVET colleges, with the portal set to close on February 14, 2025.
The next phases will cater to Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs), whose intakes traditionally occur later in the year.
“Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes later in the year while KMTC and TVETs admit theirs in January, March, and May,” said KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome. “This phased application process ensures students can transition to colleges promptly.”

In addition to the 2024 candidates, individuals who sat their KCSE exams between 2000 and 2023 can also apply, provided they meet the course requirements, to join KMTC or TVET institutions for the September intake.
Dr. Wahome revealed that over 260 TVET institutions, including university-affiliated TVET centers, national polytechnics, and others under the Ministry of Education, are available for applications.
She encouraged students to apply, emphasizing the value of TVET programs in equipping graduates with the skills demanded in the modern workforce.
“We encourage applicants to select TVET institutions and KMTC campuses within their localities as this will make it cheaper for them to operate from their homes,” Dr. Wahome advised.
To ensure the application process is accessible to all, KUCCPS will conduct a nationwide outreach program to guide and support students.
This initiative will include assistance at designated institutions in all 47 counties, as well as Huduma Centres.
Detailed guidelines, a list of institutions, available programs, and their entry requirements can be found on the KUCCPS portal: students.kuccps.net.
