Governor Mutahi Kahiga Shreds DP Kindiki for Undermining Him: “Tutofautishe Siasa Na Kazi”

Date:

NYERI, Kenya – Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has taken issue with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, accusing him of allegedly ignoring him during a recent visit to the county.

Governor Kahiga observed that there is a need to be informed when an important person of DP Kindiki’s stature visits the region for proper planning.

“Recently I saw DP Kindiki Kithure visit Nyeri. You know some people like creating chaos for nothing. We have a governor’s office here that the people have chosen. We were just being informed about his moves in the county, wondering whether we could join him or not,” he said.

Governor Kahiga spoke on the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025, when he officially launched the county’s Social Health Authority (SHA) mass registration campaign at Nyeri Town Health Center.

“Imagine a whole governor moving around trying to locate the deputy president. Is this right? Is this justice? There should be respect among public offices. When they invite me for a meeting in Nairobi, I always show up. As two levels of government, we are working for the people, and they don’t care who calls the shots; all they care about is effective service delivery.”

Why Governor Mutahi Kahiga is keen on working with DP Kindiki

The county boss reiterated that his administration was open to working with DP Kindiki’s office.

“So, as the county government, we want to work with you. We want to support you by differentiating between work and politics. Politics will come at its own time. We want him (Kindiki) to visit us more and more because we want our people to benefit,” he added.

The governor said that citizen access to affordable, quality, and comprehensive healthcare remains a chief agenda item for his administration.

On Friday, January 31, 2025, DP Kindiki launched the Aguthi Rural Electrification Project, which he said will benefit residents.

How the government is implementing the last mine program in Nyeri

DP Kindiki said the ruling Kenya Kwanza government will connect more than one million customers to the national grid in the next 20 months in the last mile connectivity program underway across the 290 constituencies.

“This will raise the number of households connected to electricity from 2.5 million in 2013 to 9 million in 2025,” explained DP Kindiki.

In Nyeri County, 10,903 beneficiaries have been connected, and Sh 733 million has been allocated for more connections this year.

In Kieni Constituency, Sh 164 million has been allocated to connect 1,163 households, including 101 homes in Aguthi Village.
