Global Fund Seeks Ruto’s Support in Fight Against HIV, TB and Malaria

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Global Fund has reached out to President William Ruto, urging him to leverage his global influence to help raise funds to combat HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

In a letter addressed to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, the Fund’s Executive Director, Peter Sands, appealed for Kenya’s leadership in securing financial commitments for the Eighth Replenishment.

“With your commitment and the leadership of President Ruto, I am confident you can deliver a successful Eighth Replenishment,” Sands stated.

The Global Fund has been a key partner in Kenya’s healthcare efforts, investing over Ksh.300 billion in the country over the past two decades.

According to Sands, this funding has been instrumental in advancing Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage agenda and bolstering the fight against infectious diseases.

“It would be an unthinkable tragedy to see this progress stall, let alone be reversed,” he warned.

Sands emphasized the importance of equipping African nations with preventive measures to curb the spread of HIV, TB, and malaria.

He also commended Kenya’s past role in mobilizing global action, noting that the country played a pivotal role as co-host of the Preparatory Meeting for the Seventh Replenishment in 2022.

That effort helped raise a historic Ksh.2 trillion to reinforce the fight against the three diseases.

The Global Fund’s latest appeal comes as governments and donors prepare for the next round of replenishment talks, which will determine future funding for life-saving programs across the world.
