NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi City County has officially launched the second edition of InnovateNBO Tech Week, setting the stage for the city to become a beacon of innovation across Africa.

This year’s theme, “Innovation for All: Crafting a Tech-Driven Future of Boundless Opportunity,” underscores Nairobi’s commitment to creating an inclusive, tech-forward future.

Building on Last Year’s Success

The inaugural InnovateNBO Tech Week in 2023 was a resounding success, attracting over 1,500 delegates, more than 50 startups, and hosting a fully-fledged hackathon.

This year, InnovateNBO 2024 aims to surpass these milestones by showcasing futuristic innovations, generating economic activity, and facilitating job creation across all sectors..

Digital Economy and Innovation CECM Mike Gumo emphasized the county’s vision during the launch event, stating, “InnovateNBO Tech Week is a celebration of our commitment to fostering an environment where ideas can flourish and transform into tangible solutions that improve life.”

Driving Forward with Innovation

Mercy Kimalat, CEO of the Association of Startups and SMEs Enablers of Kenya (ASSEK), called for collaboration among tech ecosystem stakeholders to create the right policy and regulatory frameworks.

“For an innovative and inclusive ecosystem, we need to have the right policies in place,” she stated. ASSEK is committed to leading different tracks to ensure InnovateNBO becomes a flagship initiative that other counties can emulate.

Impact and Future Prospects

The first edition of InnovateNBO led to significant outcomes, including tech talent training, the creation of local smart city solutions, and the digitization of the Jua Kali sector.

Governor Sakaja had also announced plans to set up hackerspaces for youth, which are currently in progress. The Nairobi Charter Hall has been designated as a common space for over 100 youth to convene.

This event marks a significant milestone in Nairobi’s journey towards becoming a leading center for tech innovation, fostering a vibrant ecosystem where creativity and technology converge.
