NAIROBI, Kenya- In a bid to equip the youth with essential skills for the digital economy, the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) has conducted a four-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) training program to over 40 participants in Kisii County.
Led by Kisii County YEDF Coordinator Aatos Mogoi, the training initiative aimed to provide participants with valuable AI skills, positioning them for diverse job opportunities.
Mogoi emphasized the importance of empowering youth and ensuring their readiness to thrive in the digital economy.
Collaborative Learning for Success
The AI training, held from May 30 to June 3 at the County Education Hall in Kisii town, was a collaborative effort between Ajira Digital, the National Employment Authority, and the Director of Youth Affairs in Kisii.
The County said the partnership demonstrates the collective commitment by different government agencies to fostering youth empowerment and skill development.
Bridging the Gap to Employment
Aligned with YEDF’s mandate of connecting youth to mentorship and coaching opportunities, the AI training initiative also supports the national government’s agenda of job creation for young people.
The program seeks to bridge the gap between youth unemployment and emerging job opportunities in the digital sphere.
The attendees were introduced to online jobs’ platforms like Upwork, 99 Designs, and Fiverr.
During the training, there was also a strong emphasis on learning, applying and building competence in the areas of data entry and machine language which have extensive opportunities in the lists of jobs available online.
With this initiative and others, the prospects for economic growth in the region are promising. Investing in training the youth in high demand skills can create a huge impact in the future.
