Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza Impeached for the Third Time

Date:

MERU, Kenya – Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has faced a dramatic ouster from office for the third time, marking a historic moment in Kenya’s political landscape.

After five tumultuous attempts to unseat her, the latest bid saw 49 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) vote in favor of her impeachment, with 17 opposing the motion.

The vote, held amidst heightened tensions, had three members notably absent, adding to the speculation surrounding the motives and power dynamics at play.

Mwangaza now awaits a crucial decision from the Senate, which will determine whether she will retain her position or be permanently removed from office.

This latest impeachment cements Mwangaza’s controversial tenure, making her the first governor in Kenya’s history to face impeachment multiple times.

The situation has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the stability and governance within the county, while others see it as a politically charged move to undermine her leadership.
