Fourth Mpox Case Confirmed in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenya has confirmed its fourth case of Mpox, involving a truck driver from Mombasa who fell ill while traveling to Rwanda.

Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni made the announcement on X, revealing that the driver became unwell on August 28 while passing through Gilgil and was unable to continue his journey.

Muthoni stated that the Gilgil Sub-County Rapid Response Team quickly intervened, evacuating the patient to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital’s Isolation Centre, where he is currently in stable condition.

This latest case follows earlier confirmations in Taita Taveta, Busia, and Nairobi.

The National Public Health Laboratory has processed 90 samples, with four testing positive and two still awaiting results.

Currently, 30 contacts are under surveillance in Busia, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nakuru.

The Ministry of Health reports that as of August 31, a total of 599,380 people have been screened nationwide, with 16,533 individuals screened at points of entry in the last 24 hours alone.
