Kenya Boosts Counter-Terrorism Capabilities with Advanced UAV Training for GSU Personnel

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – As terrorist tactics continue to evolve, Kenya has ramped up its counter-terrorism efforts by introducing advanced training on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for its elite General Service Unit (GSU).

The National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), in collaboration with the National Police Service, recently concluded an Advanced Training of Trainers (ToT) course focused on UAVs as part of its broader strategy to counter emerging security threats.

This specialized training aims to equip GSU personnel with the skills necessary to detect, deter, and neutralize potential terror activities involving UAVs.

By enhancing the unit’s technical capabilities, the government seeks to address the increasingly sophisticated tactics employed by terror groups, particularly the illicit use of drones for surveillance or attacks.

“Our coordinated efforts are crucial in detecting, deterring, and disrupting threats to national security,” the NCTC said in a statement.

The statement follows a recent security alert issued by the United States Embassy in Nairobi, warning of possible terror attacks and advising American citizens to exercise increased vigilance in areas frequented by tourists and foreigners.

The alert highlighted the ongoing risk of terrorism in Kenya and urged individuals to review personal security measures.
