DP Gachagua Reassures Lamu Residents on State’s Commitment to Security

Date:

LAMU, Kenya – Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured residents of Lamu County that the government remains steadfast in prioritizing their security, as part of broader efforts to safeguard the nation from threats.

Speaking during the burial of Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua in Mpeketoni on Thursday, Gachagua emphasized that state measures to enhance security in the region will not be rolled back.

“We have made security a top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that the people of Lamu live in peace and without fear,” Gachagua affirmed, highlighting the deployment of additional security personnel across the county to bolster peace and stability.

The Deputy President further reiterated that both he and President William Ruto are resolutely focused on maintaining national security.

“The President, myself, and the entire government are committed to ensuring security for all, allowing citizens to carry out their daily activities without concern,” he said.

His remarks came in response to calls by nominated Senator Shakila Abdallah to remove sniffer dogs from roadblocks in the region, citing religious sensitivities.

The senator pointed out that security in the area had improved significantly and asked for respect toward the local Muslim community.

“Please remove the dogs from roadblocks. We as Muslims request that you respect our religion and find alternative ways to conduct searches without using dogs,” Senator Abdallah stated.
