Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) has been ranked second in the latest Kenya Trak Research Survey on parastatal performance, earning a 72.8 percent approval rating.

This achievement underscores the agency’s commitment to accountability, good governance, and the development of transformative infrastructure projects across Kenya.

The National Irrigation Authority secured the top spot in the survey, which polled 10,801 respondents between July 14 and August 31, 2023.

According to the survey, 73.2 percent of respondents expressed unwavering confidence in AWWDA’s operations, highlighting the agency’s impact in Kenya’s water and sanitation sectors.

AWWDA has played a pivotal role in delivering large-scale projects aimed at improving water supply and sanitation services.

Key initiatives include the multi-billion-shilling Northern Collector Tunnel and Karimenu II Dam, both of which are critical to securing water access for Nairobi and its surrounding areas.

The agency has also focused on enhancing last-mile connectivity to ensure more Kenyans have reliable access to clean water.

Engineer Joseph Kamau, AWWDA’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the agency’s dedication to service delivery and sustainable development.

“We are resolute in our mission to build infrastructure that improves the quality of life for millions, safeguards the environment, and drives socio-economic growth,” Kamau said.

He further reiterated AWWDA’s goal to increase water coverage for Nairobi residents from the current 76 percent to 85 percent by 2027, a target aligned with the agency’s broader mandate of ensuring water security in the capital and beyond.
