NAIROBI, Kenya -The Kenya Airways (KQ) has advised its customers traveling to various destinations through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to arrive at the airport at least four hours before their scheduled flight departure time.
This is due to anticipated traffic disruptions on major roads leading to JKIA.
Youthful Kenyan protesters have been mobilising online for a Tuesday march to the JKIA after they previously stormed Parliament successfully in an incident that saw several lives lost.
“Due to anticipated traffic disruptions on major roads leading to JKIA on Tuesday, July 23, 224, customers are advised to arrive at the airport at least four (4) hours before their scheduled flight departure time,” KQ said in a statement.
In the stane st seen by Y News, KQ urged its customers to plan extra time to avoid potential delays enroute to the airport.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure you that the safety and well-being of our crew and customers is our number one priority,” the statement further reads.
According to KQ, travellings customers can physically check in at the airport as early as four hours before flight departure.
“Online viawww.kenya-airways.com or on their mobile devices via the KQ mobile app from 30 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure,” the statement further reads.
KQ through its Corporate Communications
further said that as it does everything possible to ensure its flights depart and arrive on schedule, customers are advised to expect some delays on their departure and arrival times that could be impacted by these disruptions.
“For further assistance, affected customers are advised to get in touch with KQ through its toll numbers.”
This comes when the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) also issued a warning saying that JKIA will experience increased security inspections and processes ahead of the planned demos.
Passengers were informed by KAA on Monday, July 22, 2024, of the increased security checks, which are likely a result of the Gen Z anti-government rallies.
Just like KQ, the authority cautioned the travellers in the notification to get to the airport early in order to prevent any delays in catching their flights.
In order to get the most recent information on their flights, the passengers have also been encouraged to get in touch with their individual airlines.
“Due to heightened security checks and protocols at JKIA, passengers are advised to arrive at the airport early to avoid any potential delays in catching their flights. Kindly contact your respective airline for the latest flight information. Safe travels!” the public notice read.
As earlier reported by Y News, police have also warned protesters against accessing protected areas ahead of Tuesday’s planned anti-government demonstrations in Nairobi.
