NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Airways has announced a new interline partnership with South Africa’s CemAir, a move aimed at strengthening air connectivity across Africa and expanding access to key regional destinations.
In a statement, the national carrier said the collaboration will enhance travel options across Southern, East, and West Africa by integrating both airlines’ networks to offer smoother connections and broader route access.
Under the agreement, passengers will gain improved access to South African destinations including Bloemfontein, Hoedspruit and George, as well as regional hubs such as Victoria Falls, Maun and Harare.
The partnership also opens up additional routes to cities like Zanzibar, Accra, and Kigali through Nairobi, a key transit hub for Kenya Airways.
The airline said the deal is part of its broader strategy to deepen intra-African connectivity amid growing demand for seamless travel across the continent.
“By combining our strengths, we are enabling more seamless travel experiences through enhanced network integration and smoother connections for our customers,” Kenya Airways said.
The interline arrangement allows passengers to book a single ticket across both airlines’ networks, with coordinated baggage handling and streamlined transfers, reducing travel time and complexity.
Industry analysts say such partnerships are increasingly becoming critical for African carriers seeking to expand reach without the high costs of launching new routes, particularly in a market where direct connectivity between many cities remains limited.
Kenya Airways noted that the partnership will not only improve passenger convenience but also support trade, tourism, and cultural exchange by linking more cities and markets across the continent.
The airline added that it remains committed to expanding its network through strategic alliances as it positions Nairobi as a leading aviation hub in Africa.
