The airline cited safety concerns for passengers and staff as government authorities in both regions issued alerts about the cyclone, expected to bring severe weather through Monday, December 16, 2024.
“The safety of our customers and that of our staff is our number one priority,” the airline said in a statement, apologizing for the disruption and expressing solidarity with those in the storm’s path. “Our prayers are for the safety and well-being of the people impacted by these adverse weather conditions.”
Kenya Airways said it is actively monitoring the cyclone and plans to resume operations on December 16, once conditions improve significantly.
In the meantime, affected passengers are encouraged to check flight status updates via the airline’s website or contact customer support through WhatsApp (+254 705 474 747) and X (formerly Twitter) @KQSupport.
Tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes or typhoons depending on the region, are among the most dangerous natural disasters after earthquakes.
These storms, characterized by rotating winds and intense rainfall, often cause widespread damage in tropical and coastal areas.
Kenya Airways assured passengers that it remains committed to their safety and urged travelers to stay updated as the situation unfolds.
