Safaricom Launches Nationwide Youth Bootcamp Series to Empower Future Leaders

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Safaricom, through its youth platform Safaricom Hook (S-Hook), has launched a nationwide series of bootcamps aimed at upskilling the next generation of Kenyan leaders.

The initiative, dubbed the “Safaricom Hook Circle,” targets youth empowerment in three key areas: technology, careers, and culture.

The inaugural bootcamp, held at Chuka University in Tharaka Nithi County, drew over 4,000 participants, highlighting the massive interest in this empowering venture.

The S-Hook Circle is more than just a series of workshops; it’s an opportunity pipeline for young people.

Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, Fawzia Ali, highlighted the platform’s commitment to nurturing youth talent across Kenya.

“We want to connect the youth with opportunities that will help them succeed in their chosen fields,” she said.

The bootcamps cover financial literacy, career readiness, tech-forward skills, and cultural expression—all areas designed to equip young people with the tools they need to thrive.

To bring this vision to life, Safaricom has teamed up with various partners. For instance, the Culture Hook sessions offered insights on monetizing passions such as music, fashion, and content creation, with expert guidance from partners like Elevate, Boomplay, and Baze Radio.

This focus on culture provides a unique avenue for creative minds to explore the business side of their talents.

Safaricom has also placed a significant emphasis on technology and career growth. During the bootcamp’s Technology Hook sessions, participants dove deep into tech skills that are essential for the future job market.

Power Learn Project and Avunja Mobile led sessions aimed at building digital literacy and coding expertise, underscoring the importance of tech education in today’s economy.

As a part of this, 600 youth will receive technology scholarships from Power Learn Project, a move that aligns with Safaricom’s broader vision of fostering a digitally savvy generation.

On the career side, Safaricom’s partners—including Brighter Monday, Twiva, and ABSA—focused on job readiness and entrepreneurship.

The Career Hook masterclasses equipped attendees with practical advice on crafting winning resumes, acing interviews, and even pursuing gigs in influencer marketing.

Brighter Monday has committed to providing 15 internships and upgrading the CVs of 60 participants, further cementing the bootcamp’s impact on future employability.

For youth looking to break into tech careers, mentorship opportunities and device financing from Transsion for Tecno, Infinix, and Itel devices sweetened the deal.

Safaricom’s initiative doesn’t stop at workshops. Throughout the bootcamp series, Safaricom and its partners will offer ongoing mentorship in fields like tech, music, and fashion.

Moreover, Twiva will offer influencer sales roles to over 3,000 young people, while Chiromo Hospital, Old Mutual, and ABSA will provide mental health and financial literacy support.

The combination of these efforts illustrates the holistic nature of the S-Hook Circle, ensuring that Kenyan youth are equipped not just with job skills, but with life skills too.

By connecting youth to educational resources, job opportunities, and mentorship, Safaricom is proving that investing in the next generation is key to the country’s progress.
