Schneider Electric, Nairobi Firm Launch East Africa’s Largest Hyperscale Data Center

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- In a groundbreaking move set to transform Kenya’s digital landscape, Schneider Electric has partnered with Nairobi-based IXAfrica Data Centres to unveil East Africa’s first and largest hyperscale data center.

This new facility, named NBOX1, aims to deliver stable, reliable, and sustainable cloud services, marking a significant milestone in the region’s tech evolution.

NBOX1 stands out with its state-of-the-art Tier 3+ technology, featuring Schneider Electric’s medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) switchgear.

This infrastructure ensures seamless operation and high availability for cloud service providers, meeting the growing demand for data-intensive applications in East Africa.

A key highlight of this project is its strong commitment to sustainability. Powered by Kenya’s abundant solar and geothermal resources, NBOX1 leverages renewable energy to minimize its carbon footprint.

This initiative aligns perfectly with Kenya’s ambitious renewable energy goals and global efforts to combat climate change.

Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure for Data Centers architecture and solutions form the backbone of NBOX1, providing maximum resilience, uptime, and cost efficiency.

The facility supports N+1 redundancy with four independent power trains, ensuring an impressive 99.999pc uptime guarantee.

This is crucial for businesses that rely heavily on cloud services for their operations.

Ifeanyi Odoh, Schneider Electric’s Country President in East Africa, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting IXAfrica’s goals, including achieving a design Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25 across the campus.

A lower PUE signifies greater energy efficiency, a testament to the facility’s sustainable design.

The launch of NBOX1 is expected to have a transformative impact on Kenya’s digital economy. By providing a world-class facility for cloud services, it will attract both local and international businesses, fostering innovation, creating jobs, and boosting economic growth.

The focus on renewable energy and cutting-edge technology makes NBOX1 a model for future data centers.

As East Africa continues to embrace digital transformation, the Schneider Electric-IXAfrica partnership represents a pivotal moment in the region’s technological advancement.
