NAIROBI, Kenya- Watching the senators this week during Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment brought back Sunday School days. One after the other, they belched out Bible verses like good Sunday school children determined to make their Sunday school teacher proud.
And if Jesus wasn’t impressed by the show put up, I was, if not mesmerized.
Just like Jesus taught the beatitudes high up in the mountain, our own mountain region has taught us a good share of their lessons and taken some home, too, maybe, during this impeachment hullabaloo.
First up, when standing with a brother, do not be afraid to show emotions.
Unlike the faithful army, always armed with somber moods at the pressers when things are thick, our mountain faithful are not afraid to break down in tears, and oh my! How touching the scenes were.
Secondly, managing disappointments is not for the faint-hearted.
Usually, Raila Odinga’s army would be up in arms, shouting and restless at an occurrence of such very spirited emotions and whatnot. The mountain, however, has some calm or rather patience that’s applaudable. Very diplomatic with the emotions.
Also, the meek are meant to inherit the earth, and the mountain has been very meek and feeling isolated for a while.
Whether the earth is theirs to inherit is a matter of wait and see, but in the meantime, we all know politics can’t afford the dignity of time, and all the mountain is at the moment is polarized.
The Deputy President believes himself to be a truthful man—a man with so much truth that he’s being prosecuted for it.
While being truthful is good, one wonders why shaky grounds provide for suitable truthful moments.
Hopefully, his truth will get him fulfilled and blessed because we have nothing to offer.
As the second in command, Riggy G had a lot of flavor to most. He’s otherwise become unflavorful so fast, and his close allies were quick to turn on him, leaving him very isolated.
This is a lesson in the ambiguity of friendships that are situational and self-serving. They shift camp as soon as circumstances change.
