NAIROBI, Kenya- Education in Laikipia County just got a boost, thanks to AMG Foundation’s latest endeavor to support learning.
The organization has unveiled a new library in the Majengo area of Nanyuki Town, marking the fourth installment in its “Empower Future Lives” initiative. With a seating capacity of 200, this facility is set to transform access to education for local students and underserved communities.
Laikipia County Governor Joseph Irungu applauded the initiative, emphasizing its importance in addressing educational challenges faced by local families.
“Most school-going children in this area lack access to books and library services. Their parents can barely afford the CBC curriculum materials, making this library a game-changer,” Irungu remarked during the launch.
The library aims to bridge gaps for families unable to afford learning materials under the competency-based curriculum (CBC).
Martin Githinji, AMG’s Chief Executive Officer, stressed the significance of these resources, noting that they ensure equitable access to education.
This new facility joins three other libraries established by AMG Foundation in Kibera and Murang’a County (Githumu and Kagunduini).
Together, these libraries have distributed over 10,000 free textbooks and introduced digital learning tools such as computers and tablets, all connected to the internet.
The “A Plot for You, A Library for Them” campaign underpins the foundation’s efforts to make a lasting impact. For every Ksh 100,000 invested, 12 books are purchased, while Ksh 500,000 funds a computer.
This innovative model ensures continuous growth in resources and infrastructure, empowering students with tools they might otherwise never access.
“Knowledge is the great equalizer,” said Andrew Gitau, AMG Foundation Chairman. “Whether you come from a wealthy family or a poor one, knowledge is what brings equity.”
The libraries in Githumu and Kagunduini already report an average of 500 monthly visitors, with attendance steadily increasing. Students are not just benefiting academically but are also gaining exposure to modern digital tools that enhance their learning experience.
AMG Foundation’s commitment to education goes beyond books. The organization is creating safe, inclusive spaces where students can explore, learn, and grow.
Governor Irungu summed it up perfectly: “When we see AMG Foundation putting up a library like this, filled with books of all kinds, even those aligned with the CBC curriculum, we are deeply grateful.”
The new library in Nanyuki is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of hope and opportunity for Laikipia County. By fostering a culture of learning, AMG Foundation continues to empower future generations and bridge the education gap in Kenya.
