NAIROBI, Kenya- The Climate Resilient Agribusiness for Tomorrow (CRAFT) project is stepping up its efforts in Kenya, targeting smallholder farmers with training sessions aimed at promoting climate-smart agriculture (CSA) techniques.
Launched in 2018, the project has already benefited over 266,992 farmers across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, helping them adapt to a changing climate while boosting agricultural productivity.
At a recent event, stakeholders agreed that overcoming regulatory barriers is essential for smallholder farmers to fully benefit from CSA practices.
Engaging the private sector was another focal point, with participants stressing the need for businesses to invest in sustainable agricultural practices that support farmers in adapting to climate-related challenges.
Since its inception, the CRAFT project has delivered measurable results. Over 163,511 farmers have reported increased incomes thanks to CSA initiatives, while the program has also contributed to the creation of 1,233 new jobs in the agricultural sector.
These achievements underscore the project’s success in driving economic resilience among smallholder farmers.
A key driver of this success is CRAFT’s Climate Innovations and Investment Facility, which has attracted private sector investments to further scale CSA solutions.
This facility not only funds innovative climate-resilient agricultural practices but also helps farmers adopt technologies that increase productivity while reducing environmental impact.
As climate change continues to pose a threat to food security in Africa, projects like CRAFT are crucial for building resilience in the agricultural sector.
By expanding its reach in Kenya and beyond, the program is setting the stage for a future where farmers can thrive despite the challenges posed by a changing climate.
