NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has issued an advisory warning residents of persistent rainfall across several regions on Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
The forecast, valid from 9:00 a.m. Monday to 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, highlights continued rain in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the south-eastern lowlands, and the Coastal region, including Nairobi.
Kenya Met urged residents in flood-prone and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, stay updated through official weather channels, and take necessary precautions to minimize potential risks.
The recent rainfall is part of a broader weather pattern that began over the weekend, with the department previously warning of heavy showers from December 28 through 29.
Several counties, including Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii, Narok, Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos, Nairobi, Kericho, Bomet, southern Kitui, Taita-Taveta, and Kwale, are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall of 20–30mm.
In response, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has cautioned motorists and other road users about heightened risks due to slippery roads and poor visibility caused by heavy rain and fog.
The authority advised slowing down, maintaining safe distances, avoiding overtaking in low visibility, and being extra careful in flooded sections.
Authorities say the rain is likely to intensify in the coming hours before easing on December 30, but residents are urged to remain alert and take precautions to safeguard life and property.
