NAKURU, Kenya – The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Nyaru-Fluorspar-Kapkayo-Tenges (B124) road at Kaptoror village, Turesia sub-location, following massive landslides caused by recent heavy rains.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 26, 2025, KeNHA Director General Kungu Ndingu revealed that large heaps of soil and debris have blocked a significant section of the road, while huge cracks have emerged, raising safety concerns for road users.
“As a result of these landslides, heaps of soil and debris have blocked a significant section of the road,” Ndingu said. “The cracks on the road surface have compromised the safety of motorists, prompting this closure.”
KeNHA has urged motorists to use alternative routes while repair and clearance works are underway.
The road in question is classified as a Class B highway, a key national route connecting important trading hubs, county headquarters, and linking to Class A roads and the national capital.
KeNHA, a statutory body established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007, is tasked with the development, rehabilitation, management, and maintenance of all national trunk roads, including Class S, A, and B roads.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious and stay updated on the progress of the repairs to avoid inconveniences.
