KNEC Invites Teachers to Apply for Examiner Training Ahead of National Exams

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened applications for qualified teachers to undergo examiner training ahead of the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

The initiative, critical to maintaining the credibility and integrity of national assessments, invites experienced educators to join KNEC’s database of examiners responsible for marking national examination papers.

Training Details and Eligibility

According to the council’s notice, the training programme is scheduled to run between March and April 2026, and will be delivered through a combination of online and residential sessions.

Qualified applicants will be shortlisted on a first‑come, first‑served basis, with only those meeting the criteria invited to participate.

Once shortlisted, candidates will receive further instructions on the training fee and payment process.

The training fee is set at Sh10,500, payable only by candidates after shortlisting; applicants are advised not to pay any fee unless officially notified.

Qualified trainers will subsequently be deployed by KNEC to mark the KJSEA and KCSE examination papers in accordance with official guidelines.

Application Process

Teachers and teacher educators seeking to apply must do so online through the KNEC examiners’ portal: https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke.

Applicants with existing CP2 account credentials can log in using their usernames and passwords.

New applicants without CP2 accounts are required to create one to access the portal and complete their application profiles.

Why Examiner Training Matters

Examiner training plays a vital role in ensuring that national exams are graded fairly, consistently and in line with established assessment standards.

Experienced examiners help uphold the quality of the education system by accurately judging student performance across subjects.

This training also offers teachers an opportunity to deepen their assessment skills and gain recognition at the national level beyond classroom duties.

With slots limited, KNEC has urged interested teachers to apply early and ensure they meet the eligibility requirements, including relevant qualifications, teaching experience and professional registration where applicable.

Applications for examiner training are now open through the official KNEC portal until further notice.
