Lamu Port Records Steady Growth, Gains Praise from KIFWA

Date:

LAMU, Kenya — The Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association (KIFWA) has commended Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for the Port of Lamu’s steady performance growth, highlighting the port’s increasing operational efficiency and the confidence it is garnering from global shipping lines.

Last year, total cargo throughput at Lamu Port reached 799,161 metric tonnes, attracting more major shipping lines for regular operations.

Mediterranean Shipping Company recently joined CMA CGM, expanding shipping services at the port.

Lamu Port General Manager Capt. Abdulaziz Mzee said the growth reflects the port’s strengthening role in regional and international trade networks.

He encouraged stakeholders to serve as ambassadors for Lamu’s capabilities and potential.

KIFWA branch Chairman Rajab Hamis pledged continued collaboration with KPA, noting that the port’s performance is encouraging for businesses seeking efficient trade gateways along the Northern and Lapsset Corridors.

The developments underscore Lamu Port’s growing significance as a strategic trade hub for Kenya and the broader East African region.
