NAIROBI, Kenya — Most parts of Kenya will remain dry and sunny this week, with rainfall expected only in limited regions, the Kenya Meteorological Department has said.
In its forecast covering Tuesday, September 23, to Monday, September 29, 2025, the department said showers will mainly fall in the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of north-western Kenya.
Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at over 30°C in the Coast, north-eastern and north-western regions, while night-time lows could drop to around 10°C in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and the Mt Kilimanjaro area.
The Met Department also issued a caution over strong winds exceeding 25 knots, especially across the Coast, south-eastern lowlands, north-eastern and north-western Kenya.
The gusts could pose hazards to shipping, aviation, transport, and infrastructure.
Review of Last Week
Between September 15 and 21, Kitale recorded the heaviest rainfall at 76.4mm in seven days, with 59.0mm falling in a single day on September 20.
Mandera registered the highest temperature at 38.6°C on September 16, while Nyahururu was the coldest at 5.0°C on September 21.
Last week’s forecast had highlighted the risk of heavy rainfall in Nairobi, the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, and parts of the Central Highlands.
Precautionary Advisory
Kenya Met urged residents in rain-prone areas to remain alert for possible disruptions, while those in coastal and northern regions should take precautions against strong winds.
The department said it will continue monitoring conditions and advised the public to rely on official updates, particularly in areas vulnerable to heavy rain, winds, and extreme temperatures.
