Nigerian music icon David Adedeji Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, is facing a ₦1 billion (about Sh 93.4 million) lawsuit following allegations of harassment, cyberbullying and defamation.
The legal action stems from a courtroom incident and subsequent social media activity that legal representatives say crossed professional and ethical lines.
The lawsuit was initiated by Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors on behalf of Mrs. Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, a Lagos-based lawyer who represented Davido’s former partner, Sophia Momodu, in an ongoing custody case involving their daughter, Imade.
A pre-action notice dated February 24, 2026 was sent to Davido alleging that his conduct during a hearing on February 12, 2026 was “in a manner unbecoming of a litigant”.
According to the firm, Davido became aggressive and verbally abusive towards Mrs. Enedah while she was cross-examining in court, behaviour the legal notice claims was inappropriate for someone involved in judicial proceedings.
The notice further alleges that when the judge directed Davido to apologise in open court, he refused to comply, a refusal that the plaintiff’s legal team says set the stage for further conflict.
After the courtroom encounter, the dispute allegedly spilled into social media, where a series of posts and stories purportedly linked to Davido “broadcast**” Mrs. Enedah’s identity to millions of followers, prompting a wave of abusive messages and even threats to her safety and that of her family.
In the documented legal correspondence, lawyers representing the plaintiff claim:
“Our Client was immediately subjected to a torrent of abusive text messages, threatening telephone calls, and explicit threats to her safety and the safety of her family.”
Another statement attributed to Davido in the pre-action notice reads:
“I disgraced you in the courtroom… I was teaching you your work, you couldn’t even take it… You are a wicked human being, UR THE WORST LAWYER EVER! I BEAT YOU IN COURT!”
The lawyers described such language not merely as heated disagreement but as “deliberate and malicious acts of reputational destruction” and accused the singer of using his considerable platform to instigate a public onslaught against Mrs. Enedah.
Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors outlined several demands in the pre-action notice to Davido, warning that if they are not met within seven days of receipt, legal action would move forward at the High Court of Lagos State.
The demands include immediate cessation of any direct or indirect commentary relating to the case, Withdrawals of all allegedly defamatory statements on social media, a formal public apology published in widely circulated newspapers, ₦1,000,000,000 in compensation for the alleged harassment, emotional distress and reputational harm caused by the posts.
The lawsuit emerges against the backdrop of a prolonged custody dispute between Davido and Sophia Momodu over their daughter, Imade. That case has played out both in court and in public, with both sides exchanging statements and accusations across social media and legal filings.
Davido has been particularly vocal on his platforms about how the custody battle has unfolded, including comments about personal matters such as the death of his son, Ifeanyi, which he described as being “weaponised” against him during the dispute.
While this lawsuit does not directly alter custody arrangements, it underscores the intensity and emotional charge surrounding the broader conflict between the artist and his former partner.
