Media personality Lynn Ngugi has declined growing calls for her to enter elective politics, saying she does not feel called to take up a political role and intends to remain focused on her media work.
The suggestion had been made publicly by political commentator Bravin Yuri, who endorsed Ngugi as a potential contender for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat in a future election cycle.
The proposal sparked online discussion, with supporters debating whether the journalist-turned-digital storyteller would make a strong political figure.
However, Ngugi has firmly ruled out the idea, offering a detailed response in which she expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in her but made it clear she will not be pursuing politics.
In her statement, Ngugi said: “I really appreciate the confidence and the thought behind this. It genuinely means a lot to even be considered. But I’ll be honest, I don’t feel called to step into politics.”
Ngugi emphasized that her strength lies in storytelling and public engagement through media, where she believes she can create impact without shifting into elected office.
I’ve watched some of the bravest, most grounded journalists enter that space and slowly lose what made them powerful in the first place. I strongly believe in doubling down on what I know and do best.
That’s where I feel most effective, and that’s how I believe I can contribute meaningfully. So I’ll have to respectfully decline, but I’m grateful you thought of me.”
She noted that while she respects those who transition into politics, she has observed how the political environment can change public figures, particularly journalists who move into governance roles.

Ngugi has built a strong audience through her interview-driven platform focusing on human interest stories, social justice issues, and lived experiences across Kenya.
Her work has made her one of the most recognisable digital media voices in the country.
