Kenyan Celebrities Slam Government as Floods Paralyze Nairobi

Several Kenyan celebrities and public personalities have criticized the government following heavy rains that flooded parts of Nairobi in the last 24 hours, paralysing transport and leaving residents stranded across the city.

Among those speaking out online are influencer Ivy Namu, comedian and radio presenter MCA Tricky, and gospel singer Daddy Owen, who joined thousands of Kenyans expressing frustration over the city’s recurring flooding crisis.

The public figures took to social media platforms to question the government’s preparedness and the state of Nairobi’s drainage systems as images of submerged roads and stranded vehicles circulated widely online.

Ivy Namu Questions Leadership

Lifestyle influencer Ivy Namu was among the first personalities to react as floodwaters submerged major roads in the capital.

Sharing her frustration online, she questioned how Nairobi continues to experience severe flooding whenever it rains, despite years of complaints from residents.

“And of course, the annual floods that always wreak havoc, but nothing is ever done in preparation. We deserve so much better,” Namu said.

Her remarks reflected growing anger among city dwellers who say authorities have repeatedly failed to address drainage issues and poor urban planning.

Many social media users echoed her concerns, pointing out that flooded roads and clogged drainage systems have become a common sight every rainy season.

MCA Tricky Calls Out Poor Drainage

Comedian and radio host MCA Tricky also weighed in on the situation, using humour mixed with criticism to call out what he described as poor infrastructure planning.

The comedian shared posts highlighting the scale of flooding in various parts of the city, while questioning how the capital continues to grind to a halt after just a few hours of rainfall.

Like many Nairobi residents, Tricky pointed to the state of drainage systems and waste management as key factors behind the flooding.

“Kenyans pay a lot of taxes for them to go through this painful cycle of calamities ! You will see them on top of heavy vehicles from now on, telling you what you want to hear,” Tricky said.

Over the years, experts have warned that blocked drains, unregulated construction and rapid urban expansion have worsened flooding in the capital.

Daddy Owen Raises Safety Concerns

Gospel musician Daddy Owen also joined the conversation, expressing concern about the safety of residents caught in flooded streets.

The singer urged authorities to prioritize long-term solutions to the city’s infrastructure challenges, warning that recurring floods place thousands of Nairobi residents at risk every year.

“I once heard a politician say that Nairobi’s planning was done years ago and that much of its infrastructure, sewer systems, drainage networks, and other critical designs, has long since become outdated,” Daddy Owen said.

“But then the question arises: what is the solution? Are we condemned to capsize in floods every rainy season?”

His comments added to the growing list of public figures demanding better disaster preparedness and urban planning in the capital.
