Media personality Oga Obinna has opened up about his difficult upbringing in a heartfelt and candid moment.

During a recent interview on ‘Every other time with Eric,’ Obinna took time to call his mother live on air, revisiting memories of his early struggles and the sacrifices that shaped his journey.

The emotional exchange offered a rare glimpse into the comedian and radio host’s past, revealing a story of resilience, hustle, and deep family bonds.

In the conversation, Obinna walked his mother through memories of the odd jobs he took on as a young boy just to survive and support his family. Among them was a small but telling business of selling grass.

“Biashara yangu ya kuuza nyasi, unaiikumbuka?” he asked, prompting laughter and nostalgia from both sides of the call.

His mother recalled how he would cut grass and distribute it, sometimes earning as little as Sh.5.

Obinna didn’t shy away from the harder memories either. In one moment, he recounted a time he was so exhausted and overwhelmed that he could not even eat.

“Unakumbuka siku nilikuja na unga ya chapati na nikazima nikashindwa kula?” he asked his mother, recalling how fatigue had taken over his body.

His mother confirmed the moment, simply stating, “Ulikuwa umechoka.”

The exchange highlighted the physical and emotional toll of his early struggles, days filled with work, uncertainty, and exhaustion.

Beyond selling grass, Obinna revealed that he took on multiple roles to make ends meet. From casual labor like farming for others to helping with construction-related tasks, he embraced any opportunity that came his way.

“Na kulimia watu pia,” he noted, emphasizing how he worked on other people’s farms to earn a living.

At the heart of the conversation was Obinna’s deep appreciation for his mother, whom he credited for being his pillar through it all.

He gave a heartfelt shout-out, saying: “Shout out, mama Obinna… she is amazing. She is my reason of making it. She fought by me, with me, all through.”

His mother, in turn, recalled how Obinna always made sure that whatever little he earned went back to the family.

Obinna confirmed this, adding simply: “I used to take care of the family.”
