NAIROBI, Kenya- Chelsea Football Club has confirmed that head coach Enzo Maresca has left the club with immediate effect, with his position described as untenable after a breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy.

The decision follows growing dissatisfaction with results and internal tensions at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have won only one of their last seven Premier League matches, and the club cited the need for a change to help steer the season back on course.

Maresca led Chelsea to notable successes during his 18‑month tenure, including triumphs in the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

“During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club,” the Club said in a statement.

However, recent performances and a strained relationship between the coach and the board culminated in the split.

The Blues are currently fifth in the Premier League and remain active in four competitions, including the Champions League qualification campaign.

Chelsea have indicated that a replacement will be named from a small number of candidates in the coming days.

Reports suggest Liam Rosenior, manager of Strasbourg, is a leading contender but other options are being considered.

Sources also indicate that Oliver Glasner is not currently in the frame for the role.

Club officials and supporters will now look to the January schedule, with a key fixture against Manchester City looming before a new permanent head coach is appointed.

Chelsea thanked Maresca for his contributions to the club and wished him well in future endeavours in a statement confirming his departure.
