Popular Kikuyu musician DJ Fatxo is set to take the witness stand in the ongoing inquest into the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi, who allegedly fell from a building in Nairobi’s Kasarani area in 2023.

Mwathi is said to have been in Fatxo’s house at Redwood Apartments on the night he died. The case will proceed before Milimani Principal Magistrate Rose Ndombi.

In earlier testimony, a security guard at the apartment complex recounted how he discovered Mwathi’s body in the early hours of the morning.

George Gitau Kamau told the court that on the night of the incident, he reported for his 6:10 p.m. shift and later carried out a routine patrol at around 3:00 a.m.

About two hours later, he heard a “loud thud” near the building’s parking area.

“When I checked, I found the body of a young man on the ground. His head was cracked, and his trousers were pulled down to the knees,” Kamau said.

He immediately alerted the caretaker, who informed the building manager and later the police.

Kamau testified that he did not hear any commotion or arguments from the apartments that night and noted that no visitors were recorded for DJ Fatxo in the security gate book.

The guard added that the DJ’s car was not at the premises at the time of the incident and that the apartment block’s CCTV only covered the parking area, which security personnel at the gate could not monitor in real-time.

Mwathi’s death sparked public outcry last year and prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his fall. DJ Fatxo has denied any wrongdoing.
