Tanzanian music icon Diamond Platnumz is best known for his chart-topping hits, electrifying performances, and high-profile relationships. But during his recent appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, the Waah! hitmaker peeled back the curtain on a lesser-known — and deeply personal — part of his life: fatherhood.
In a rare moment, the Wasafi Records CEO revealed that he has raised children who are not biologically his — a revelation that has since sparked conversation across social media and parenting circles.
“I’ve raised kids that aren’t mine biologically,” Diamond said during the iHeartRadio interview. “Not because I was forced to… I chose to. I did it with love.”
The artist, shared that love and responsibility, not biology, have guided his approach to parenting. While he didn’t mention names, many fans quickly connected the comments to past relationships — particularly his time with Ugandan entrepreneur Zari Hassan, with whom he co-parents two children, and Tanzanian model Hamisa Mobetto.
“Sometimes people expect you to walk away when you find out something, but for me, I asked myself — are they safe? Are they loved? And if I’m in a position to give them that, I do,” he added.
Diamond’s words offered a more intimate look into how he defines family — a side rarely seen behind his glamorous public image. While paternity has been a topic of gossip in the past, the singer made it clear that his commitment to his children, biological or not, is unwavering.
Diamond has often made headlines for his flashy lifestyle, public breakups, and music industry dominance. But this side of him — soft-spoken, introspective, and emotionally mature — surprised many fans.
In the same interview, he spoke about wanting to evolve as a man and as a father. He hinted that despite past challenges, he’s prioritizing presence over perfection.
“Being a dad is more than just providing. It’s about being there, guiding, protecting, showing up,” he said. “And I take that seriously.”
“They’re still my kids,” he said. “And they always will be.”
