Doja Cat is set to perform in Rwanda after being announced as the headline act for the 2026 edition of the Move Afrika tour, an initiative organized by Global Citizen aimed at strengthening Africa’s live music industry.
The Grammy-winning rapper and singer will perform at BK Arena in Kigali on March 17, 2026, in what is expected to be one of the biggest international music events scheduled in Rwanda this year.
The Kigali show will launch the latest edition of the Move Afrika tour before the event moves to Pretoria for a second concert later that week.
Move Afrika was launched by Global Citizen as a long-term initiative aimed at building a sustainable international touring circuit across Africa.
The program combines large-scale concerts with advocacy campaigns focused on economic empowerment, healthcare access, and youth opportunities.
Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, has frequently spoken about her connection to Africa through her South African heritage.
Her father, actor Dumisani Dlamini, is from South Africa, a background that the artist has previously acknowledged as part of her cultural identity.
The rapper rose to global fame with hit songs including Say So, Woman, and Paint the Town Red, establishing herself as one of the most influential pop and hip-hop artists of the past decade.
Her upcoming Kigali performance marks one of her most high-profile appearances on the African continent.
The Move Afrika tour is part of a broader effort to develop Africa’s live entertainment infrastructure and skills base.
According to Global Citizen, the initiative prioritizes hiring local professionals in areas such as stage production, lighting, sound engineering, security, and hospitality.
In previous editions, organizers said more than 90 percent of event crews were sourced locally, helping provide practical training and job opportunities within the entertainment sector.
Beyond the concerts themselves, the initiative also includes workshops and training programs aimed at building long-term capacity in the industry.
The Move Afrika project has already attracted major international performers since its launch.
Kendrick Lamar and John Legend have headlined earlier editions of the concerts, helping draw international attention to the initiative.
Global Citizen says the goal is to gradually expand the touring circuit to more destinations across the continent in the coming years.
Hosting major international artists has become part of Rwanda’s broader strategy to position the country as a regional tourism and events hub.
The Kigali concert is being organized in partnership with the Rwanda Development Board, which promotes tourism, investment, and international events in the country.
Additional artists and performers for the Move Afrika Rwanda concert are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Organizers have also encouraged fans to engage with advocacy campaigns through the Global Citizen platform, where supporters can earn rewards including access to event tickets.
