Flaqo Reveals Why He Took Back Keranta’s Car After Breakup

Kenyan comedian and content creator Flaqo Raz, real name Erastus Otieno, has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his decision to repossess the car he had gifted to his ex-girlfriend, fellow content creator Winnie Keranta.

Speaking in an interview with Oga Obinna, the funnyman explained the move and sought to put an end to ongoing speculation.

The pair, once one of Kenya’s most followed celebrity couples, went public with their romance in 2023, frequently posting loved-up skits, TikToks and joint YouTube content.

In October that year, Flaqo surprised Keranta for her 22nd birthday with a Nissan Note valued at Sh 650,000, a gesture that quickly went viral and won him praise for being “boyfriend goals.”

However, the relationship soured in 2024, with the two quietly going their separate ways before the split became public. Early this year, Keranta confirmed in an interview that the car had been taken back by Flaqo after their breakup.

Now, Flaqo has given his side of the story.“The car was still in my name,” he told Obinna, explaining that he had bought the vehicle himself and merely allowed Keranta to use it during their relationship. “I just took the car and I left. I did not want drama.”

According to Flaqo, the Nissan Note had been a “convenient gift” at the time—meant to support Keranta’s mobility and lifestyle while they were together. But, because it was still registered under his ownership, he decided to reclaim it once they parted ways.

“Gari ilikuwa kwa jina yangu,” he said, stressing that the move was based on practicality rather than pettiness. “There is no ex there; it was just my car in my name.”

The comedian also clarified that he had not repossessed any other gifts, such as the fridge, household furnishings, or other items he may have purchased for Keranta.“I only took the car. That’s it,” he noted. “The rest I left as they were.”

As for whether he regrets making such a high-profile gift in the first place, Flaqo didn’t give a definitive answer. Instead, he left listeners with a short, pointed remark: “Next time, I’ll know better how to gift… and in whose name.”
