The Nairobi County Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Chief Officer, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called on President William Ruto to roll out a special “Starter Life Kit” to support young Kenyans aged 25 and above who wish to marry and establish families.
The appeal was made in a social media post on November 30, 2025, following the President’s recent remarks urging young people to tie the knot rather than frequent nightclubs.
In his post, Mosiria said financial constraints remain the biggest barrier preventing youth from marrying and asked that the support be channelled through the Ministry of Youth. He argued that the proposed assistance, limited to one year, could promote responsible living, reduce nightlife indulgence, and help stabilise families.
“Mr. President, is there a way the Ministry of Youth can introduce a special ‘Starter Life Kit’ for young people aged 25 and above—just one-year support to help them marry and start life?” Mosiria asked.
Mosiria drew on his previous role in Nairobi’s Environment docket, during which he conducted nightly inspections of city clubs.
THIS LIFE IS UNFAIR WALAI! This world is truly unfair. You work so hard in school, always top of your class, teachers praising you like you’re the next Einstein. Primary school-number one in KCPE. Secondary-A plain in KCSE. Campus-you graduate with honors. Then after all that
He noted that he often observed more young women than men frequenting clubs — a dynamic he linked to social instability. He argued that many youths are ready to start families but lack the economic means to do so.
The call comes on the heels of remarks made by President Ruto on November 29 at the wedding of the son of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The President urged young people over 25 to marry, saying excessive clubbing should give way to family-building.
Mosiria’s proposal reflects growing concerns about youth unemployment, social dislocation, and moral decay among urban youth, particularly in cities like Nairobi.
It also underscores a broader push by some local leaders to address social challenges through interventions targeting marriage, family formation, and community stability.
