Content creator Mzungu Fresh has sparked debate online after sharing an emotional account on Hot 96 FM, alleging that he was left financially stranded following the collapse of a romantic relationship with a woman from Mombasa.
Speaking during the radio interview, Mzungu Fresh said the relationship began as a private matter but gradually involved significant financial commitments on his part.
He told the hosts that while he was in love, he supported his partner and her family, including paying rent for her mother and purchasing household items such as a washing machine, clothes and boots.
According to his account, he was also taken to her rural home, where he met her grandmother — a gesture he viewed as a sign the relationship was serious.
“I was falling in love and I didn’t feel like what I’m doing even,” he said, adding that he did not closely monitor his spending at the time.
The situation reportedly changed when he realised his finances had been depleted to the point that he no longer had enough money to travel back to his home country.
Mzungu Fresh told the radio presenters that when he shared his financial struggles with his partner, the relationship abruptly ended.
He claimed she told him she no longer wanted to be with him, citing cultural reasons, before cutting off all communication.
“She blocked me everywhere — WhatsApp, Instagram, even my phone number. I can’t even talk to her,” he said.
Mzungu Fresh told Hot 96 that he is now stuck in Kenya without sufficient funds to return home, describing the situation as painful rather than humorous.
“Maybe it’s a funny story for you guys, but me, I was falling in love and I didn’t think properly,” he said.
The interview quickly gained traction on social media, with Kenyans offering mixed reactions. While some expressed sympathy, others questioned his decisions and warned against mixing finances with relationships, especially across cultural and economic differences.
