Hull City Secure Signature of Harambee Stars Prospect Sammy Henia-Kamau

Sammy Henia-Kamau, a 19-year-old forward with Kenyan roots, has officially joined Hull City’s Under-21 side on a one-year contract running until 30 June 2026.

The signing places him among the growing list of foreign-based players eligible for the Harambee Stars, strengthening Kenya’s options for the future.

Henia-Kamau is a centre-forward known for his pace, physical presence, and ability to press from the front.

He is also comfortable operating out wide, giving him versatility in attacking systems. Standing out for his intelligent runs and composure in front of goal, he has been described by coaches as a hardworking striker who adapts quickly to tactical demands.

Born to a British mother and a Kenyan father, Henia-Kamau holds eligibility to represent both England and Kenya internationally.

For Kenya, his arrival at Hull City’s development ranks is a timely boost, with the Harambee Stars actively tracking young talent abroad to bolster their competitive edge in regional and continental tournaments.

Henia-Kamau began his football development with Swansea City’s U18 team, where he gained a strong technical base and exposure to structured academy football in the United Kingdom.

His time at Swansea was followed by a short stint at Jersey Bulls, a semi-professional side playing in the English football pyramid.

The move to Jersey Bulls offered him valuable senior-level experience against physically mature players.

That period was seen as important in preparing him for more competitive opportunities. After returning to Swansea, Henia-Kamau later secured a trial with Hull City, where he impressed coaches during training and friendly matches.

His performances earned him the contract that now ties him to Hull’s U21 setup. The club’s development squad is closely linked to the first team, with players often gaining opportunities for senior minutes or loan spells in the English football system.

Henia-Kamau’s progression is of particular interest to the Harambee Stars technical bench. Kenya has increasingly looked to integrate Europe-based players into the national side, a trend that has seen the team benefit from players exposed to more competitive footballing environments.

As a natural striker, Henia-Kamau adds to a position where Kenya has historically lacked depth and consistency. If his development continues positively at Hull, he could provide a reliable option for the national team in upcoming international fixtures.

According to records from Transfermarkt, Henia-Kamau officially signed with Hull City on 31 July 2025. His contract runs for one year, and his progress with the U21 squad will be monitored both by his club and by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Hull City’s U21s compete in structured youth competitions in England, with performances regularly reviewed for possible elevation to senior football. The immediate challenge will be to establish himself as a regular starter at that level and push towards senior opportunities.

At just 19, Henia-Kamau’s career remains in its early stages. However, his signing with Hull City provides him with a platform to develop under professional structures while maintaining eligibility for international football with Kenya.
