TOKYO, Japan — Kenya opened its 2025 Deaflympics campaign on a high note as athletes Ian Kahinga and David Kipkogei clinched gold and silver, respectively, in the men’s 10,000 metres, sparking celebrations back home.
The success continued in the 4x400m mixed relay, where Team Kenya delivered an exceptional performance, finishing second and securing a silver medal.
H.E. Salim Mvurya, EGH, lauded the athletes on social media, saying the early victories demonstrate Kenya’s strength and competitive spirit at the international event.
“Let us keep the momentum going as we continue to proudly fly the Kenyan flag high. Hongera Team Kenya!” he wrote.
The strong start raises expectations for further medals as Kenyan athletes compete in multiple track and field events over the course of the games.
