Machakos County Issues Demand Letter to Oga Obinna Over Sammy Kioko Payment Claims

Media personality Oga Obinna has responded after receiving a formal demand letter from the County Government of Machakos, which accused him of publishing unverified claims on his show regarding unpaid dues allegedly owed to comedian Sammy Kioko.

In the letter dated 12th November 2025 and signed by County Solicitor Juliet Nthambi, the Machakos County Attorney’s Office demanded that Obinna produce documents proving that the government contracted Sammy Kioko or owed him money.

The three-page document, written under the Office of the County Attorney, warned that failure to provide evidence would lead to legal action for “publishing and disseminating false, malicious, and misleading information.”

The letter, referencing Obinna’s YouTube episode “Obinna Show Live: When Politics Crushes Dreams | Sammy Kioko’s Heartbreaking Story,” asserted that the comedian was not a registered supplier or contractor with the county.

“The said Sammy Kioko is not a registered supplier with the County Government of Machakos,” read part of the statement.“He does not appear as a director, shareholder, or beneficial owner in any registered company supplying the County Government of Machakos.”

The county further stated that it had no contract or pending payment involving Kioko, and that his public claims were misleading and potentially damaging to the county’s reputation.

Posting a photo of the document, Obinna wrote:”Wueh. Makosa imefanyika. Is this a legit document? Is this real ama naota jamani?”

The comedian and broadcaster expressed disbelief at the formality of the county’s approach, suggesting that the issue could have been resolved through direct communication with Kioko rather than a legal threat.

“A very simple issue being made huge by everyone just avoiding calling Kioko and finding a solution,” he added.“Ya’ll had time to write a demand letter for documents you could’ve just asked from him directly.”

Obinna tagged @sammie_kioko in his post, urging him to present the necessary paperwork to verify his claims:

“Haya @sammie_kioko leta zile contracts na delivery notes signed and stamped by the County Government officials so that wakili wangu @otieniwill atumie County Government of Machakos.”

The media host also pointed out what he saw as irony in the letter’s contents, saying that it repeated the same points Kioko had already made in the viral interview.

“Exactly what Sammie said in the interview is what has been written on this demand letter over and over… how is he not part of the company in question? Plus now I’m also playing politics,” he wrote.

Obinna concluded his statement by confirming that he would cooperate with the legal request: “For the solicitor, we shall send documents earliest possible.”

The county government, through its legal office, has maintained that the discussion on Obinna’s platform was misleading and lacked factual grounding.

“Your show and the discussion therein were made out of ignorance of facts and the law in respect to procurement and contracts,” the letter stated.

It added that government contracts cannot be discussed by individuals who are not legally authorized to represent the contracting company.

“The law does not envisage a position where a third party is to follow up on payments or obligations of a company with the government without authority to do so,” it read.

The letter concluded by directing Obinna to provide evidence of the claims made on his YouTube channel, failure to which the county would take further legal action in the “best interest of the County Government of Machakos.”

Sammy Kioko, a comedian and content creator, appeared on Obinna’s show on November 10, 2025, where he claimed that his company had supplied services to the Machakos County Government but had not been paid.

He alleged that political interference had delayed payment and impacted his business operations.

The county has denied these allegations, insisting that Kioko neither owns nor represents any of the registered suppliers in its system.
