Maurice Ogeta Gifts Apartments to Relatives in Major Family Uplift Initiative

Maurice Ogeta, the long-serving security aide to Azimio leader Raila Odinga, has gifted several apartments to members of his extended family in a move that has drawn widespread attention and placed focus on one of the most recognisable figures within Odinga’s inner circle.

The gesture, completed over recent weeks, has been confirmed by relatives who have already taken possession of the units.

The apartments, located in Bondo, were handed over as part of what family members describe as a deliberate effort by Ogeta to solidify the financial footing of those closest to him.

The beneficiaries include siblings, nieces, and other extended relatives who have long depended on rented housing in the city.

Details emerging from within the family indicate that the initiative has been in motion for months, with Ogeta personally overseeing the acquisition process and ensuring that each unit was registered directly under the names of the beneficiaries. The apartments, ranging from studio units to one-bedroom homes, were selected based on the housing needs and family sizes of each recipient.

“This is something he made clear he wanted to do — providing permanent homes for the people who have stood with him throughout his life,” a family member said. The apartments represent the most substantial family-focused investment Ogeta has been associated with in recent years. A family member stated that they were allowed to earn rental income from the units for five years, after which the arrangement would be reviewed or handed back as directed.

Ogeta, who first came to national recognition during the 2023 anti-government protests following his abduction and subsequent release, has remained a steady presence behind Odinga throughout years of political transitions, campaign seasons, and high-pressure national events. Despite that visibility, he has maintained an intensely private lifestyle, rarely giving interviews or offering glimpses into his personal affairs.

The apartment initiative points to a period of consolidation for him, following years of turbulent political seasons that often placed members of Odinga’s team in the public spotlight.

Reaction within the family has been overwhelmingly positive, with relatives describing the move as transformative. The acquisition of permanent homes has been described as providing “generational relief” — securing stability for children and offering a tangible asset base for families that previously had no ownership in real estate.

True to his long-standing preference for privacy, Ogeta has not issued any formal statement about the apartment gifts.
