NAIROBI, Kenya — Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has underscored the private sector’s central role in transforming Kenya’s football landscape, calling for sustainable partnerships anchored on governance, accountability, and measurable performance.

Speaking on Monday after a meeting with the newly appointed Football Oversight Investment Committee, Mvurya said the government is keen to unlock Kenya’s football potential by aligning public and private resources toward structured growth and long-term value creation.

“The private sector is a critical partner and enabler in accelerating the development of football in Kenya,” Mvurya said. “We agreed on clear pillars for collaboration, strong governance, performance metrics, talent pathways, and community impact, so that every shilling invested is accountable and catalytic.”

The committee, established to coordinate and oversee investment in the football sector, will focus on enhancing transparency and ensuring that resources channeled into the sport yield measurable social and economic benefits.

Mvurya emphasized that the partnership will not only boost grassroots talent development but also strengthen Kenya’s competitiveness on the continental stage. “We are building a pipeline of bankable, future-focused projects across the football value chain,” he said.

The meeting was attended by Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed, who both expressed optimism that the new collaborative approach would mark a turning point for Kenyan football governance.

The move comes as the Ministry of Sports continues to push reforms aimed at professionalizing sports management through financial accountability frameworks, infrastructure modernization, and athlete welfare initiatives.
