Naomi Kuria Regrets Losing Sh600,000 Deal Over Drug Use

Kenyan content creator and comedian Naomi Kuria has publicly acknowledged losing a lucrative brand deal worth approximately Sh600,000 due to her involvement with drugs, an experience she has since described as regrettable.

Kuria’s disclosure adds to a series of candid comments the social media personality has made about personal challenges and career setbacks.

While talking to Oga Obinna Live, Kuria stated she terminated a Sh600,000 deal with Uber because of her use of bangi (marijuana), which impacted the partnership before it could be concluded.

“They told me to redo a video and I had smoked already and I was too lazy to redo it,”she shared.

In previous interviews, Kuria has openly discussed her struggles with drug use, describing how substance use during an earlier phase of her career led to lost opportunities, wasted resources and time.

In one feature from 2023, she admitted that her involvement with drugs, including smoking and weed, resulted in the loss of deals and progress in her creative work — an experience she said she regrets.

“There are things that I will never feel tempted, like weed. Weed had a stong hold on me, ….I struggled to quit…..I would struggle to form speech, I would forget English,” Naomi disclosed.

Kuria has addressed both the professional and personal impact of her past behaviours, though those discussions have primarily focused on her artistic journey and transformation rather than specific brand contracts.

Her online presence opened doors to brand partnerships and commercial opportunities.

In addition to losing the deal, Kuria has described feeling that substance use diverted her focus and energy away from her career goals at the time. She has acknowledged both the mistake and the lessons learned.

Beyond this issue, Kuria has spoken on several other topics in media appearances, including her desire to get married, her decisions to undergo cosmetic procedures and the relationship between personal confidence and her career.

These discussions show her evolving approach to sharing personal experiences with her audience.
