RABAT, Morocco — President William Ruto has been awarded the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025, a recognition of his role in strengthening football development in Kenya and across the African continent.
The award was presented on Wednesday night during the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat. Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, received the accolade on behalf of the President.
CAF said the award reflects Ruto’s sustained investment in sports infrastructure, national teams, and major continental competitions. Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed welcomed the honour, saying it affirms Kenya’s growing commitment to elevating football at all levels.
“With the elaborate support structure the Government is putting in place for sports, and particularly football, I have no doubt our players shall soon be recipients of these coveted accolades as well,” Mohammed said.
President Ruto receives the prestigious CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025, in recognition of his outstanding and extensive contribution to the development and growth of football in Kenya and on the African Continent.
President Ruto was honoured alongside Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, both recognised for championing football institutions and supporting major regional initiatives.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the three leaders for their “exceptional dedication to the advancement of football in Africa,” noting that East Africa has become a critical pillar in the sport’s expansion.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda co-hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament that showcased upgraded stadiums, enhanced logistics, and improved operational standards across the three countries.
Kenya is also gearing up to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a milestone expected to further boost sporting infrastructure and Kenya’s regional football profile.
At the ceremony, several African stars were celebrated for outstanding performances. Nigeria’s Super Falcons were named Women’s Team of the Year, while Chiamaka Nnadozie won Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.
Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was awarded CAF Men’s Player of the Year, with Ghizlane Chebbak clinching the Women’s Player of the Year title.
The awards capped a night that highlighted the continent’s football achievements and recognised strong government support as a key driver of growth.
