President William Ruto on Thursday hosted the Harambee Stars at State House, Nairobi, in a colourful ceremony celebrating their qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The players, who reignited national pride with their spirited performance in the qualifiers, were accorded a red carpet reception and treated to a state luncheon in recognition of their historic achievement.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, during which President Ruto, senior government officials, and invited guests stood at attention.
The anthem set a patriotic tone as the team prepared to make their entry.
Dressed in elegant black and dark blue suits, the players marched in step, led by head coach Benni McCarthy.
Their arrival was accompanied by a special song composed in their honour, adding to the celebratory mood.
As they approached the dais, each player was greeted personally by President Ruto, who offered a handshake and words of encouragement.
Behind them, a giant screen lit up with their names and portraits, spotlighting every member of the team before the audience.
The formal welcome then gave way to a state luncheon prepared in their honour, marking Kenya’s return to continental football after years in the shadows.
