Media personality Sarah Mtalii has shared an account of the challenges she faced in her marriage during a candid conversation on Alex Mwakideu Live.
In the conversation, Kabu reflected on the complexities of maintaining a marriage under societal expectations and the hidden struggles that often go unnoticed by the public.
Sarah revealed that the difficulties in her marriage began during the fourth year, a period she describes as the turning point.
“Shida zilianza on the fourth year,” she explained. “I realized there was trouble in paradise when I was pregnant with my son.”
She recounted that her life before marriage was relatively private. “Nilikuwa nimetoka mwaka wa 2013, but the internet hawakujua,” she said, noting that the public was largely unaware of her personal life at the time as she had moved out of her marital home.
In addition to personal challenges, Kabu spoke about the role societal expectations played in her marital life.
She noted that appearances and material considerations often take center stage in married life.
“Paliko na pesa, sinema inabidi. Hiyo ilikuwa sinema,” she said, explaining that she and her spouse felt compelled to stage certain ‘scenes’ or appearances for the sake of social acceptance.
She elaborated on the strain that such societal pressure created. “Because in society, when you’re married, you’re highly respected. But by staging those scenes, we became strangers living in the same house,” Kabu said.
Sarah Kabu and Simon Kabu officially separated in May 2024, though the public only became widely aware of the split later in the year.
Sources close to the couple revealed that the two had begun living apart at that time, marking the end of their physical and emotional cohabitation.
The couple’s separation quickly became a topic of discussion in the media after late-2024, when statements from both Sarah and Simon confirmed that their marriage had ended.
The news attracted significant attention because the couple had long been seen as a model for married life, especially on social media, where they often shared curated glimpses of family life.
